January is nearing its endpoint, and I don’t know about you, but I’m beyond happy about it! Like every year, this month has dragged on and on, and work has been super busy for me working in the gym world! Now as we near a new month, it’s time to reflect on the last 30 days.
Let’s be clear: I am NOT talking about our false-ass New Year’s Resolutions. Look, if they work for you, they work for you… I just don’t believe in them🤷♀️. I am talking more in general about how this month has gone, what you have learnt, and what you’re going to tweak going forward.
I am also not saying that you have to do all this one, all at once, or two, from the first of February. I hate the idea of waiting for a new week or month to start a new habit or lifestyle change. Why not start now? But, when life gets busy, it’s still easier (and probably more beneficial) to take it month by month.
Journal Prompts
Whether you journal or not, you can use the below questions to ask yourself on a deeper level how you are doing. This is something which most of us don’t do often enough, or rather not at all. It’s easy to say “I’m fine” when someone asks you how you are, whether it’s true or not. This white lie is told, on the other hand, way too often. However, it’s actually pretty hard to open up to someone and tell them the truth if you’re not doing too good – and it’s harder to do with yourself.
Here’s some prompts to get you started:
- How have I felt this month?
- What emotion have I felt this most?
- What have I achieved?
- What have I enjoyed?
- Have I allowed enough downtime/ social time/alone time?
- What has been my favourite part of this month?
- What has been my least favourite part this month?
- Describe this month in 5 words
- List 5 things you are grateful for this month. How did these things contribute to your wellbeing?
- How did I step outside of my comfort zone this month?
- How am I going to ensure I take care of myself next month?
- What are my non-negotiables for next month?
- What do I want to achieve next month?
These prompts are going to help you get a clearer picture of how January has gone for you, and how you are going to implement this going forward into February and beyond.
Remember that some of these questions may be harder than others, but try and spend a similar amount of time going through each one. The positives are just as important as the negatives.
