Meet the newest addition to our little family: a six-year-old rescue cat with enough personality to fill the entire house. His name? Gary. No, that’s wasn’t our choice of name, but it definitely suits this grumpy, older cat!
We adopted him just over a week ago, and while we’re still settling into life together, one thing is clear—he’s already stolen our hearts (and maybe a few spots on the sofa).
When we first brought him home, he was a little wary, as you’d expect from a cat who’s been through his share of ups and downs. But it didn’t take long for his feisty side to shine. He’s got a streak of independence and a knack for letting us know exactly what he wants—usually in the form of demanding fuss on his own terms or gently sending us away when he’s had enough. And when those fuss-filled moments come? Oh, he melts into a puddle of purrs and headbutts, reminding us why we fell for him in the first place.

This first week has been a mix of playtime, patience, and plenty of laughter. He’s claimed his favourite spot underneath the kitchen table, has a fascination with chasing shadows, and has already mastered the art of giving us his signature “I’m in charge here” look. He’s still hiding from us for now, but does come out for cuddles from time to time, and despite his sass, his softer moments are the sweetest—curling up for cuddles or gently pawing at us for attention.
Rescuing an older cat has been such a rewarding experience so far. He might not be a kitten, but he’s full of life, love, and quirks that make him uniquely ours – one of which is his weak-ass meows, sounding like a pop bottle opening! It’s been amazing to watch him start to trust us and settle into his new forever home. Here’s to many more weeks, months, and years of mischief, snuggles, and unconditional love with our new furry friend. We couldn’t be happier to have him in our lives!
(I’ll keep you updated with his curiosity and playfulness in the weeks to come!)
