Good things come to those who wait… but also not

The quote “good things come to those who wait” has been going round my mind recently. To me it is entirely relevant to the idea of manifestation – you manifest something happening in your life everyday and it magically comes true. If you’ve ever taken part in this spiritual practice, you’ll know that it actually isn’t the case.

It coincides with the theory of “Lucky Girl Syndrome”, which was a trend on social media and in the mindfulness realm twelve or so months ago. This concept was a viral mindset trend popularised on TikTok, where people, especially us Gen-Zers, embrace the belief that they are inherently lucky and that good things naturally happen to them. Rooted in manifestation and positive thinking, it’s about shifting your perspective to expect success and abundance. Those who practice this mentality often claim that by consistently affirming their “luckiness,” they attract positive outcomes, whether in relationships, career, or everyday life.

Both these ideas of manifesting and lucky girl syndrome gravitate towards the power of positive thinking – something which I address A LOT. If you want something to happen so badly, you have to exert positive, good vibes and energy (vibrations) into the world, or the universe, in order to receive that goodness back. Blah, blah, blah. I believe in this aspect of manifestation and higher vibrations etc., but not to the same extent as you might think. I wouldn’t say I’m a spiritual person, but rather someone who does believe that there is something out there, and this theory simple abides by physics, right? Newton’s theory of forces pushing and pulling back to each other: you put out good vibes, you receive them. Simple physics.

However, these theories don’t work by a positive mentality alone. You have to put the work in too. So, if you want something bad enough, exert good energy into the world around you, but also… put in the damn work!

You can’t expect things to just happen to you. That’s not how life works. You have to grind to get anywhere, unfortunately. But with positive thinking, you can give yourself a little slack.

Good things do come to those who wait, but not wait around. Put in the work, think positively, and believe that it will happen, whilst also believing in yourself. Then, anything can happen!

This idea came to mind after some good news today, which came to light after me getting this balance right between a good mindset and also putting the work in. I encourage you to go out there, smash your goals, and ultimately just believe in yourself. Let the magic work and your life will also workout in the process.
