Learn something new everyday

Since I was young, I’ve always been an academic. Even after leaving university, I still hold onto this mindset. Studying and learning bring me joy, and when I graduated last year, I thought I’d miss out on that daily feeling of discovering something new. Little did I know, you don’t need to be an “academic” or attend a formal institution to continue learning.

I make it a point to research things I don’t know. Whether I’m having a conversation with a friend or overhearing strangers talking about a word, phrase, or news event that doesn’t sound familiar, I go straight to Google. Now, I’m not saying I’ll always find the most accurate information, but I find enough to satisfy my curiosity and keep my brain engaged.

And that’s exactly the point—my brain craves new words and ideas to stay energized. Does anyone else feel this way?

I’ve made a vow to myself to keep learning. Research the things you’re unfamiliar with, jog your memory on topics that seem foggy. Don’t just nod and say, “Yeah, I know what you’re talking about,” when you have no idea what’s being discussed. Ask questions! In this world of constant learning, ignorance isn’t bliss—it’s just ignorance!

Beyond that, if you’re like me, I encourage you to assess whether your current environment—your friends, your job, your surroundings—supports your growth and learning. If not, maybe it’s time for some reflection. I believe no one should be held back from wanting to learn more or live a fuller, more enriched life.

If you’re not like me and you’re content with simply living, I urge you to start small. Try scrolling through your news feed in the morning, turning on the TV to something educational, or watching your nightly Netflix show with subtitles in a different language. These small steps can enrich your life in ways you can’t yet imagine.

Here’s your Sunday reminder: You can do anything you set your mind to. Keep learning, no matter your age, and keep growing. Every single day.
