Love more of yourself in 2024

HAPPY NEW YEAR! 🎉🎉🎉

I hope your Christmas and New Year celebrations were full of joy and laughter. This week I will be focusing on the importance of self care and of course, self love.

As we are now in a brand new year, I have some advice for you to help kickstart your self love journey this year.

First of all, don’t put so much pressure on yourself to fulfil any resolutions you have. It’s good to have self discipline, as that’s how our hopes and dreams come true. However, it’s just as good to focus on working on yourself during this time. If you have certain goals in the gym or at work, go for it, but remember that you have to rest too.

Next on the list is to give yourself more love this year. I believe that we have all managed to rest over the Christmas period, and maybe some of you have realised that you may need to schedule in more rest this year. Rest is good – it allows us to reconnect with ourselves and our goals, and ultimately gives us a break from our busy lives. Rest also makes us realise how much (or rather how little) self love we give ourselves.

But how do you “give yourself more love?”

There’s no simple answer, and I know that’s not what you want to hear. Maybe you had a really tough year last year and you’ve lost touch with yourself. I know that applies to me. Maybe you’ve lost someone, maybe you’re going through a breakup. Whatever it is you’re going through, self love is the answer.

If you haven’t already, try journaling. I admit that journaling doesn’t work for everyone, but keep in mind that there’s many ways to journal. Most of the time, I use the brain dump method – simply write down what I’m feeling. But some days, I feel just ok and don’t feel the need to write anything. On these days I write 3 things I’m grateful for, or 3 things I’ve accomplished that day if I’m writing in the evening. Again, don’t put pressure on yourself to journal everyday. Just at least try it if you haven’t already.

Another thing I love to do at the start of the year, or at the start of a new month, following on from the journaling point, is to make a list of what you want more of in your life and less of. It can be easy things like more exercise and less drinking. Or it can be more complex, more profound things like more self love and less self sabotage. This is a great way to create a guide for yourself in the new year.

What I’m trying to say in this post is to work on yourself more, whatever way that looks like for you. Journal more, get back into old hobbies, exercise more, drink more water. Whatever you’ve been putting off for the last few months, now is your chance to do it.

And with that, have a fabulous year. I know you will shine 🌟
