Redefining your weekends: Self-care Saturdays + Sundays

Who else spends their weekends doing odd jobs around the house, taking kids to sports matches and dance, setting yourself up for the next week? Well, I don’t have kids, but I get the feeling. As my job is in social media, I never really have time off. I am constantly looking out for the next trending video or audio, podcast ideas etc., for both my personal handles as well as my work. If I’m not working on the weekends, I’m visiting friends at uni, going out and also not getting in much sleep and self-care. Therefore, my weekends are usually filled with productivity rather than rest.

However, this weekend, I really allowed myself to take a break. I spent it watching Netflix and staying under my duvet. It was the first weekend I had in a very long time that I could simply exist, and not have to show up anywhere. And let me tell you, I loved it!

What’s the point in me telling you this?

Even if you have tasks to do on a weekend, remember that weekends are there for rest. Try to at least use of of the two days as a you day. I get that this may be hard if you have a family, and so in this case, at least try to get some me-time for at least two hours over the weekend.

I’m trying to have a complete rest weekend every other week, as I still want to be social and let that fun side of me come out. This year is a huge focus on self-care for me, and it should be the case for you too. It’s time we ditch expectations and start reconnecting with ourselves, relearning what we love to do and figuring out who we are :)
