Nowadays, I feel like we all think that from time to time we have to do certain things to prove ourselves to society; do things for others. For example, quite a lot of the time we feel like we have to hide away our emotions and thoughts so that we don’t ‘burden’ others.
Let me tell you, I know it is hard, but please stop comparing yourself to others. You alone are enough. Say that aloud: YOU ARE ENOUGH. Instead of being addicted to the cruel cycle of comparison and expectation, start becoming addicted to bettering yourself for no one other than YOU. In the end, it’s you who will have to live with whoever you turn out to be for the rest of your life, so why bother changing for your high school friends who won’t be around for ever?
Don’t be so hard on yourself all the time; you’re doing the best you can do right now. Keep going. Keep your eyes forward and remember why you want to do this, why you want to accomplish what ever dreams you have, including who you want to be. Take time off to find out who you want to be and first of all who you are right now. Don’t hate yourself when you don’t even know yourself, however, I promise, that when you get to know your true self, you won’t hate her/him.
You are going to make it. It’ll be hard, but you’re going to make it. Always remember that.
